Torniainen Destroys Mini Field
Matt Torniainen (ADK Vauhti) skied away from the field just before the end of the first of four laps in yesterday’s Great Sacandaga Mini Marathon. Skiers battled through soft conditions after 8 inches of snow fell the day before the race. Torniainen eventually put almost 8 minutes into the sleep deprived Dave Paarlberg-Kvam (HURT). Paarlberg-Kvam out-sprinted Stan Hatch (PNMSP) to the line, relegating Hatch to third.
In the woman’s race, Deb Nordyke (Saratoga Biathlon) held off Ellen Mallery (RXSF) and Karolina Valterova.
In the 14 km Micro Marathon, Ethan Katz (HURT) and Gabriella Frittelli (Saratoga Biathlon) captured the men’s and women’s titles.
